Nye Museum Opening for Season on Saturday, June 14, 12PM-4PM

OPEN HOUSE CELEBRATION Fun for history-lovers of all ages!

May 27, 2025: The Nye Museum will open for the 2025 Season on Saturday, June 15th with its Annual Open House Celebration from 12PM-4PM. This fun and free event is rain-or-shine and is sure to delight visitors of all ages.

The Nye Museum, located at 85 Old County Road in East Sandwich, is truly a gem to the community in both its beautiful, mostly untouched, natural landscape, and for the educational offerings it provides to the community through its unique museum spaces.

A fun array of activities are planned for the Open House. Costumed tour guides will be stationed around the property including one in each room of the historic Benjamin Nye Homestead where they will interpret different aspects of Nye and East Sandwich history. Genealogist, Lori Nye, will be available for genealogy hour between 1PM-2PM.

Curator Marge Donley will be providing guided tours of the 2025 Special Exhibit titled Massachusetts Men for Independence.

Hands-on activities for kids will be offered including games and a scavenger hunt.

Bring your sneakers and take a walk around the museum trails which include views of the Cape Cod Railroad and the historic Old Fish Hatchery.

For those unfamiliar with the museum, the Nye Family is one of the original settlers of Sandwich settling first in Spring Hill and then shortly thereafter building the homestead at its current site in 1678. The museum complex consists of three separate historic buildings, all detailing different facets of the Nye Family throughout the years. The Nye Homestead operates as a historic house museum, the Old Grange Hall is a community and exhibition space, the Mill Museum interprets the industrial history of the and old fish hatchery trails.

The Nye Museum is open June 14-October 12, Tuesday through Saturdays from 11:00AM-4:00PM.
